Tao Xie

Chair Professor at Peking University and Chair of the Department of Software Science and Engineering, School of Computer Science.

Tao Xie is a Chair Professor at Peking University, Director of the Department of Software Science and Engineering at the School of Computer Science, and Director of the Institute for Advanced Computing Systems at Fudan University. He also serves as Chairman and Director of the Beijing Tongminghu Information Technology Application Innovation Center, Director of the Shanghai Institute for Open Computing Systems, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Open Processor Industry Innovation Center, Chief Scientist of the Beijing Open Chip Research Institute, and Director of the National “111 Program” Base for Discipline Innovation. He previously was a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He is an elected Foreign Member of the European Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of ACM, IEEE, AAAS, the China Electronics Society, and the China Computer Federation. He is a recipient of the Xplorer Prize and the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas). Prof. Xie currently chairs the CCF Technical Committee on System Software and serves as Chair of the AI/ML Special Interest Group of RISC-V International. He has led major national research initiatives, including NSFC major program integration projects, the NSFC Overseas Scholar Collaborative Research Grant (Distinguished Young Scholar Program) and its extension, the National “111 Program,” national laboratory strategic projects, and major Beijing municipal high-tech industry projects. His research interests include software engineering, system software, software security, trustworthy AI, and foundational software for RISC-V.
